Bengaluru: It has been disclosed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be officially inaugurating the much-discussed Bengaluru-Mysuru Expressway on March 11 in Mandya district. Mysuru-Kodagu Lok Sabha MP Pratap Simha revealed the same before media persons on Saturday.

“Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be inaugurating the Bengaluru-Mysuru Expressway on March 11. This road would bring connectivity and prosperity to Ramanagara, Mandya and Mysuru. The plan is to hold the event in Mandya. In spite of Mandya never electing our party member, we have never neglected the district,” Simha said.

He added that Modi will perform the ground-breaking ceremony for the fourlane Mysuru-Madikeri road. The prime minister is also slated to visit Karnataka on February 27 to inaugurate the Shivamogga airport. The expressway has been mired in controversy.

Recently, farmers from Hanakere village in Mandya district had blocked the expressway demanding the immediate construction of an underpass to ease movement of people from one end of the road to the other and had been lathicharged. This past year, the expressway had been waterlogged, prompting the Opposition Congress and JD(S) to claim that the work had been unscientific.
