Bengaluru: A day after the city pourakarmik 's threat to hold a protest demonstration demanding the regularisation of jobs, the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) announced the regularisation of over 11,000 of its employees.

The BBMP had earlier invited applications from Group-D employees to regularise 3,611 posts under the waste management and sanitation works across the wards in the city. It also announced a provisional list.

Soon after, the pourakarmikas alleged that the list was ridden with flaws and that the selection process used was unlawful. The pourakarmikas further pointed to instances where over 8-10 jobs that were regularised belonged to a single family of workers and alleged that false documents had been submitted and authorities bribed.

They later threatened a protest in front of the Chief minister’s residence on Sunday. Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai had earlier promised to regularise the jobs of pourakarmikas. In the first phase, 3,611 jobs were regularised. Now, the BBMP has promised to regularise 11,000 of them.

There are over 16,500 workers employed with BBMP. The chief commissioner of the municipal body has already submitted a report on the regularisation to the government and has also held meetings over the matter at a zonal level. It is now preparing to regularise those being left out.
