Bengaluru: Residents of a multistorey apartment near Chalukya Circle were horror-struck as they witnessed a woman falling from the building to her death on Sunday.
According to sources from the spot, the woman jumped off from the 11th floor of the building and fell onto a car parked on the road. The incident reportedly took place at the High Point (HP3) apartment near Chalukya Circle in Bengaluru.
On receiving the alert, the jurisdictional police rushed to the spot and conducted an inspection. The deceased woman was identified as Prakruti, 18. Sources said that she was noticed by a few people while entering the apartment while speaking in Hindi over her mobile phone in the evening. Preliminary probe revealed that the deceased was not a resident of the apartment and had come from a different place.
However it was learnt that she was a student of Sophia College in the city and the cops reportedly retrieved her broken mobile phone and Rs 300 in cash from her bag. Deputy Commissioner of Police, Central, Srinivas Gowda, who visited the spot soon after the incident, said that the woman had gained entry into the apartment by telling the security official that she knew one of the residents there. The exact cause of her death is not ascertained yet.
The sources said that due to the impact of her fall from the height damaged the car and shattered its window glasses. The police procured the contact details of her parents who were residing in Sanjay Nagar here and informed them about Prakruti's death. Speaking to the police, the parents stated that Prakruti had been in depressed state for the past few days.
But they also said that they were unaware that she would take such an extreme step. The police have procured CCTV footage which showed Prakruti entering the apartment and going to the 11th floor before jumping to her death. The body was sent to Bowring hospital for a post-mortem and a case has been registered at the High Grounds police station regarding the matter.
