Bengaluru: In the wake of the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) awareness drive ahead of the coming assembly polls, names of at least 15,772 first-time voters have been included in the voters' list, according to sources here. The BBMP along with the Election Commission of India had recently begun the awareness drive.
Door-to-door enrolment campaigns were conducted in order to encourage youngsters to enrol and vote. The sources said that the campaigns have been carried out by the booth-level officers (BLOs) and other concerned officials in all 243 wards across eight city zones under the jurisdiction of BBMP.
The aim was to woo young voters above 18 years of age and explain to them the importance of voting. Efforts are being made to reach out to more people residing in the slum areas and major populated areas in the city. The officials are also helping the people who have not yet registered and those whose names have not been included in the voters' list so far, sources added.
The campaign drive was held from February 20 to 26. The BBMP said that the people and young voters including students can also register themselves through the voters' helpline software or by visiting the official website of www.nvsp.in (National Voters' Services Portal). The people can also visit the BBMP Revenue Office to register
