Bengaluru: Another murder mystery was solved by the city police with the arrest of a suspect who allegedly hired ‘supari’ killers to murder his own father over a property dispute in Kaverappa Layout here. Earlier, News Trail had reported the brutal murder of a 70-year-old man, Narayana Swamy, who was attacked and killed by two bike-borne armed assailants near Panathur on February 13.

Following a probe, the Marathahalli police had inspected the body and later procured statements from the family, neighbours and other witnesses. CCTV footage across the crime scene was also scanned by the cops. During investigation it was revealed that Swamy's son, Manikantha, 37, had served a jail term for killing his first wife. After being released, he remarried and had a daughter.

However, he was also involved in an extramarital affair. Cops learnt that his second wife had moved out due to this and the couple had decided to get divorced. Sources from the police said that despite repeated efforts of Narayana Swamy to bring about reconciliation among the couple, Manikantha refused to live with his second wife. It was then that Swamy decided to give some of his property to his daughter-inlaw and granddaughter to manage their lives after getting separated from Manikantha.

Manikantha, who had his eyes on the property, got enraged at the decision of his father and began plotting to have him killed. He offered Rs 1 crore to two of his friends, identified as Shiva and Naveen Kumar, if they would kill his father. Following a plan they hatched, Manikantha's friends attacked Narayana Swamy when he was on his way to the sub-registrar's office around 11 am on February 13. Manikantha, who was present at the spot, did nothing to save his father, sources said.

Sources said that following a complaint, the jurisdictional police suspected Manikantha to be behind the murder. In order to have a water-tight case, the police followed relevant procedures before arresting him. During interrogation, the suspect is said to have confessed to the crime. Based on his statement, the other two accused were arrested by the cops.
