Bengaluru: A WhatsApp status has landed a police inspector in trouble, as false news of him celebrating his father’s 75th birthday on the police station premises has spread.

The inspector, Balakrishna, of the Vijaynagar police station in Mysuru city assumed charge in December, 2019 and was accorded the customary welcome by the staff. His aged parents, wife and children had accompanied him to the police station. The inspector has recently put up these pictures as his WhatsApp status.

These photos have landed him in trouble as it was alleged that the inspector was celebrating his father’s birthday at the station. When contacted, the inspector told NT that the photos were taken when he assumed charge in 2019 and wonders why it has caused controversy.

While taking charge, the policemen had also garlanded his aged parents. Coincidentally, it also happened to be the 75th birthday of Balakrishna’s father. The pictures were taken on inspector’s phone.

Balakrishna told NT, “Such news affects our morale. I do not know the logic behind such false news and why it is making rounds almost two years after the incident. I may be a police officer, but even I have a family. I hardly give them time due to my busy work schedule. There is no weekly off for policemen. At least by posting pictures, I like to cherish the memories and make my family feel happy. Due to this disturbing news, I am removing the pictures from the WhatsApp status,” the inspector added.

He also added that he has found out the person behind it and told him to stop spreading false news.
