Bengaluru: After the Karnataka government extended the rebate on traffic fines on March 4, the Bengaluru Traffic Police (BTP) disposed of about 93,000 traffic violation cases to collect Rs 2.68 crore towards fines in the last four days.
Considering the huge response to the offer in February, the Karnataka State Legal Services Authority (KSLSA) and Bengaluru Special Commissioner, Traffic, Dr MA Saleem had requested the state government to extend the 50 per cent rebate on pending traffic challans for another 15 days. The Karnataka government on March 3 announced the extension of discount on pending traffic fines.
A new window for paying pending offences booked till February 11 was thrown open on March 4 and will be in effect till March 18. However this time, the BTP witnessed a tepid response to the scheme with a collection of Rs 86.46 lakh as fine against 30,141 cases as on March 4. The next day, Rs 66.62 lakh in fines was collected with the clearance of 23,214 cases.
On March 6, Rs 86.75 lakh in fines was collected in 30,312 cases, while Rs 28.32 lakh was collected and 9,865 cases disposed of by afternoon on March 7, sources from the BTP said. People who want to pay the fines for e-challan cases in Bengaluru can visit the nearest traffic police stations or the Traffic Management Centre on Infantry Road in the city.
Alternatively, they also can pay the fine through PayTM or Karnataka One website. For others in the rest of Karnataka, the fines can be paid by visiting the respective police stations in their area or through the Karnataka One portal.
