KPTCL staff calls for strike over wage hike

Bengaluru: The workers of Karnataka Power Transmission Corporation Limited (KPTCL) have decided to go on an indefinite strike beginning March 16 demanding wage revision. The power supply across the state is likely to be affected due to the protest. On Monday, a meeting of the employees and union leaders was held at the BESCOM office in Bengaluru.

The union has said that they have not received any response from KPTCL even after they were informed about the agitation. The union has claimed that the wage revision, which normally happens every five years, has not taken place. It also alleged that the government had revised the salaries of all government employees, leaving out KPTCL workers.

“The government has not revised our salaries in the past six years. We have been in financial distress for a long time and hence the call for the strike. We should not be held responsible for any disruptions due to the proposed agitation. We demand that the government must pass an order before April 1, agreeing to revise our salaries,” said Lakshmipathy, the president of the KPTCL workers’ union.
