Bengaluru: Bengaluru's Russell Market and Chandni Chowk have been given a new lease of life with renovated buildings and improved facilities.

The Russell Market has been transformed into a modern marketplace with a focus on cleanliness and hygiene, with revamped infrastructure and over 300 vendors offering fresh produce, meats, fish and flowers.

The adjacent Chandni Chowk too sports wider footpaths, new street furniture and improved lighting now. The busy areas are now pedestrian-friendly, with designated zones for street vendors and parking facilities, and the facades of buildings in the vicinity have been restored to their former glory.

The renovation of these heritage markets is part of the Bengaluru Smart City Mission, with support from the BBMP and BMRCL. It is expected to boost tourism and provide a more comfortable and convenient shopping experience for locals, while preserving the city's rich heritage and culture.
