City top cop warns errant officers of strict action

Bengaluru: The City Police Commissioner on Thursday warned of strict action against officers and other staff if found involved in any misconduct.

Concerned after a series of cases filed against police officers for dereliction of duty and involvement in other of fences recently, Bengaluru Commis - sioner of Police CH Pratap Reddy said that the police are responsible for maintaining law and order in the society along with protecting public life and property.

"It cannot be tolerated if police personnel are found to be indulging in crime-related incidents," he said. He fur ther said that due to the wrong doings of a select few, a negative impression is getting created about the whole department in the minds of the public. "Directions will be given to not only suspend such police staff, but also dismiss t hem a nd f i le criminal cases against such officers," he added.

The Police Commissioner's statement came after two police officers attached to Marathahalli police station were allegedly found to be involved in kidnapping of an offender for a ransom of Rs 40 lakh. In a separate incident, Kodigehalli police inspector has been suspended for harassing a woman for sexual favours.
