Demolition of hill in RR Nagar to form layout is the pits: Locals

Bengaluru: Citizens Movement, an NGO, took to Twitter to bring to light a project taking place in Rajarajeshwari Nagar, involving the demolition of a hill structure.
The forum said that the project is taking place adjacent to the Hosakerehalli Lake, which has been under the radar by citizens since it was found that the municipal body Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike was constructing a road through the water body.
“It is near Shanmugan (Arumugam Temple) in Rajarajeshwari Nagar in Bengaluru. They are making a layout on top of it. To access the layout, they are building an S-shaped road to the hilltop,” the forum claimed on a Twitter thread along with relevant videos.
“Half of the hill is bulldozed and many lorries of debris are being dumped. Many residents tried to get information about the necessary approvals but to no avail. We doubt if it is legal. We hear that politicians from Congress and the BJP are involved in it,” the thread continued.
The forum added that the work has been brought to a halt at the moment since the Hosakerehalli Lake Road issue has garnered much attention. “A hill gets formed when tectonic plates of earth shift. That happens once in a million years.
These greedy folks are killing that for a residential complex that hardly lasts 90 years. Houses can be rebuilt but hills can’t. Nobody can own a hill! Then why a residential layout on it?” it questioned, and added that a small lake called the Bheemana Katte would get recharged with rainwater flowing in from the hill. However, due to its destruction, the lake may see its end.
Tagging several Twitter handles, the forum sought accountability from the municipal body and political parties while demanding that they keep up the reputation of the ‘Garden City’.
