Bengaluru: Probing the anonymous letter shared with the President of India, the city police have suspended a head constable attached to Subramanya Nagar Police Station.

According to the police investigation, Shivakumar, a head constable and a writer at the police station was found to be behind the act. Deputy Commissioner of Police, Bengaluru North Division, D Devaraj, issued an order late on Monday suspending the head constable based on an inquiry conducted by the Assistant Commissioner of Police Malleswaram Subdivision.

Following an inquiry, it was revealed that Shivakumar had circulated the letter containing serious allegations of corruption and harassment against police inspector Sharana Gowda. It was also learnt that he had allegedly sent a nine-page anonymous complaint letter to the President of India Droupadi Murmu via post on February 24.

As the complaint letter went viral on social media drawing criticism from netizens, DCP Devaraj had ordered an inquiry into the matter following which, according to investigating officers, the allegations against the police inspector were baseless and false, sources told News Trail.

It was found that the head constable had a grudge against the police inspector over a trivial issue. The letter from Shivakumar alleged that the police inspector demanded bribes from low-rung officers and harassed them for more collection. It was also alleged that the officer would misbehave with women staff at the police station.

Further, the letter mentioned details of fixed bribe amounts to be collected from various bars, malls and pubs. The letter had been shared with state authorities such as Director General and Inspector General of Police (DGP), Election Commission of India, Income Tax Department, Karnataka Home Minister, CBI, Chief Secretary, Karnataka Chief Minister, Prime Minister and other officials apart from the President of India.
