BJP MLA stands on Ram idol, apologises

BJP MLA from Basavakalyan Sharanu Salagar has apologised following a picture of him standing on the thigh of a statue of the deity Ram went viral. The incident occurred in his Basavakalyan town on Friday. He had stood on the idol to garland it on the occasion of Ram Navami during the local Shobha Yatra. Pictures and videos of the incident became viral, following which political rivals including Congress slammed Salagar for it.

“I am a staunch Hindu activist and Ram bhakt as well. I climbed on the statue, garlanded it and did ‘arati’ out of love and devotion. After I came down, I bowed to the statue and I have images to prove it. This issue is made clear in the full video, but some vested interests are raking up this issue. I had no bad intentions. If it is wrong, I apologise for my actions,” Salagar told media persons
