Kids clean drains in Bommanahalli; netizens flay BBMP

In a shocking incident, it has been revealed that children and women were deployed by a contractor for the purpose of de-silting storm water rains in the Bommanahalli area. Ironically, the municipal body, Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike’s (BBMP) office is only a stone’s throw away from the site where the workers were put to work and yet, no action has been taken against the contractor. The incident was reported on Bilal Masjid Road, 6th Cross, Madina Nagar, Hongasandra, Ward No 189.

The workers were not provided with any safety gear and were seen working in civilian clothes with their bare arms and feet. Locals have alleged that instead of using machines to do the gruesome work, children and women were being employed to cut costs. Netizens have demanded action from the authorities concerned.
