Karnataka Congress on Sunday slammed the BJP government for filing FIRs against 70 citizens because they protested against the Sankey Road fly-over. The grand old party which had expressed sympathy with the protesters and their cause in the past promised that the FIRs would be withdrawn once cases were withdrawn.

Karnataka Pradesh Cong ress Committee (KPCC) communications chairman Priyank Kharge claimed that the state police had been acting like “agents of BJP.” “FIR has been filed against 60 to 70 denizens of Malleswaram for speaking out against Sankey flyover. About 22,000 signatures had been collected against the project and against the widening of Sankey Road.

As many as 2,000 children have also asked Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai to drop the project,” he said, adding that the projects would be dropped and so would the cases. “Action would be taken against policemen who are behaving like agents of BJP,” he added. Congress candidate from Malleshwaram alleged that local MLA and State Higher Education Minister CN Ashwath Narayan had abused his power to slap cases against the protesters in question.
