Mekedatu: DK asks Congmen for Jan plan
NT Correspondent
Bengaluru: KPCC President D.K. Shivakumar has called for a meeting of former and defeated legislators, block presidents and office-bearers of the Congress party in the Cauvery basin areas on December 13 to chalk out a plan of action for the proposed padayatra from Mekedatu to Bengaluru in the first week of January, 2022.
He told the media on Friday that the meeting will discuss in detail the padayatra and the number of people to be part of it. It has been made mandatory for participating party workers and leaders to register their names before embarking on the padayatra to urge the state government to expedite the much-awaited project that would quench the thirst of Bengalureans as well as irrigate the fields in Mandya and Ramanagara districts.
The Tamil Nadu government is unnecessarily preventing Karnataka from taking up the project to build a balancing reservoir on the border to impound additional water after releasing it to TN as per final orders of the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal. Shivakumar said the membership enrolment will begin tomorrow (Saturday) and legislators have been asked to supervise it. Every leader has to be personally present to make this membership drive successful, he added.
