Kolar: A woman reportedly died in the Kolar district after delivering a baby in what is alleged to be a case of medical negligence.
The matter came to light sometime after the incident which took place on March 1 in Bangarpet town. The cops have identified the deceased as Bharathi, a 26-year-old mother. The victim’s husband said that Bharathi started showing adverse reactions after being injected with a medicine by a nurse at the Bangarapet government hospital. The delivery was scheduled to take place on Monday.
However, Bharathi was brought to the hospital with the assistance of ASHA workers on Saturday morning and the baby was delivered around noon. Soon after the birth of the baby, Bharathi was moved to the general ward. She was fine till 11 pm, after which she began to experience pain in her legs.
When the attending nurse was informed about the pain she asked her husband Manjunath to bring a paracetamol injection. Bharathi was injected with the same. However, things went from bad to worse from that point onwards. Manjunath has claimed that Bharathi began to cry as soon as she was injected with paracetamol. However, no one attended to her despite the nurses being informed multiple times.
The doctor, who was informed only one and half hours after pushing the injection, checked the pulse of the victim and administered another injection, killing her on the spot, according to reports. This was the victim’s second delivery. The couple has a girl child priorly. The kin of the victim staged a protest in front of the hospital demanding justice.
After the intervention of local leaders and police, promising action, they left the spot. A complaint has been filed at the Bangarapet police station and further investigation is being conducted.
