Bengaluru:

Eighteen days have passed since the Bagalur police arrested a head constable attached to Marathahalli police station for allegedly abducting a suspect in a poaching case and attempting to extort Rs 40 lakh from him but the main accused in the case, a police sub-inspector and two head constables, continue to be on the run. Police sub-inspector Rangesh and head constables Mahadev Naik and Mahesh absconded soon after a complaint was filed against them by Bagalur police officers alleging an extortion attempt from a suspect.

According to the complaint, Rangesh along with the head constables had nabbed two offenders identified as Ramanjani and Mallappa on March 18. However, instead of taking them to the police station, the cops took them to an undisclosed location and tied them up. Further it was alleged that the cops made a call to Ramanjani's relatives demanding a ransom of Rs 40 lakh for his release. Fearing that Ramanjani has been kidnapped by a gang, his relatives filed a complaint at Bagalur police station.

However the Bagalur cops were shocked when the preliminary probe revealed that Ramanjani had been kidnapped by a team of officers from Marathahalli police station. Speaking to News Trail, a city police officer said that efforts are on to nab the absconding officers. "Two teams have been formed to track them," the officer said
