City walkers oppose construction works in Cubbon Park

Cubbon Park Walkers’ Association has taken exception to the construction of a water processing unit and storage tank inside the Cubbon Park. The construction is being supervised by the Heritage Century Club which reportedly did not take the permission of the Horticulture Department before beginning the construction. The Century Club is private property within the park. Walkers and others who visit the park frequently have been opposing the construction fearing it might obstruct the beauty of the park.

Umesh, the president of the Cubbon Park Walkers Association has reportedly stated that many such works are being carried out in the name of construction. He accused the Century Club authorities of undertaking construction works without acquiring necessary permissions. Cubbon Park Walkers Association president also alleged that the club was violating the court orders. He had earlier filed a writ petition against the club in the public interest, and the Horticulture department had issued notice to the club in this connection
