Bengaluru: City police resorted to lathi-charge to disperse fans who had come to buy Indian Premier League (IPL) tickets for the match between Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at the Chinnaswamy Stadium.

According to sources, the people had come across a 'fake post' on social media, which said that tickets for the match would be available at the stadium on Sunday. Following the post, a large number of fans had come to buy tickets for the high voltage between the two teams on Monday.

However, when they came to know that the tickets have already been sold out, they expressed outrage and began fighting with the staff. Sources said that the staff had placed a 'soldout' board at the ticket counter on Sunday which the fans tore down in anger as they could not get the tickets.

Soon the police teams were alerted who rushed to the venue and asked the fans to disperse. As they continued the protest, the cops had to resort to lathi-charge some of them in order to bring the situation under control. Both RCB and CSK have huge fan followings and the tickets for Monday’s were sold out quickly, sources from the stadium said. RCB and CSK have played four matches and both teams have won twice.

CSK is ranked 6th in the IPL table because of its better net run rate, while RCB is ranked 7th. Meanwhile police advised the people not to believe in the fake information being spread on social media regarding IPL match tickets.
