Bengaluru: A bizarre controversy has broken out as Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Bengaluru city president Mohan Dasari accused BJP MLA S Raghu of insulting BR Ambedkar by taking the garland that he wore around his neck and putting it on a statue of Babasaheb. The incident occurred on Ambedkar Jayanti which was on Friday.

Dasari held that it was imprudent on Raghu’s part to put a used garland around Ambedkar’s statue. It is to be noted that Raghu represents CV Raman Nagar constituency, which is reserved for Scheduled Castes (SCs). Dasari will be contesting from the same seat in the upcoming Assembly elections slated to be held on May 10.

“On Ambedkar Jayanti, BJP MLA S Raghu came here and took the garland that he was wearing and put it on the statue of Ambedkar, which is an insult. In our country’s culture, only great personalities get statues made in their image. To honour such individuals, we use garlands that are unused and new. That is our culture,” Dasari said.
