Bengaluru: Three people including a former police constable were arrested by the Central Crime Branch (CCB) sleuths for allegedly duping several people in a rice pulling scam. The accused were identified by the police as Natesh, a former police constable attached to the City Armed Reserve (CAR), Venkatesh and Somashekhar.

According to sources from police, Natesh joined as police constable in 2007 and was himself duped in a rice pulling scam then. Later he resigned from the police department and got into the real estate business. It was revealed that Natesh had joined hands with the frauds and began duping people along with them.

The trio allegedly duped people in several parts of the state, including Bengaluru, by taking money from them on the promise of providing ‘rice pulling’ devices. The CCB personnel claimed to have recovered Rs 28 lakh in cash and three luxury cars from them.

The Halasuru Gate police have registered a case and taken up further investigation. Meanwhile the suspended sub-inspector of police from Pulikeshi Nagar in Bengaluru is still on the run. The sub-inspector is accused in an illegal detention of a person who was involved in a rice-pulling scam and then extorting money from him in exchange for his release. Investigation is underway
