India should have higher GDP revenue every month: PTR

Bengaluru: At a time when the Interna - tional Monetary Fund (IMF), and World Bank have said that India is the fastest-growing economy in the world, and when the BJP leaders and members are finding a way to celebrate it, Tamil Nadu Finance Minister Palanivel Thiagarajan (PTR) slammed the Centre for waxing eloquent over the same.
Speaking at an event here, Thiagarajan also said India must have higher GDP revenue every month, given the country’s highest population and economy. “Unless you are failing every month, you should have the higher GDP revenue”, he said.
The minister also targeted the BJP leaders for boasting about it and called it meaningless. In a three-minute-long video doing rounds on social media, PTR was seen disclosing facts on the nation’s growth rate. “They say India has the fastest rate of growth. There is something called the low-base effect. No other country had a recession like us during COVID. We went -8 per cent in real terms.
The BJP leaders must ask how far the country has bounced back from getting to the lowest in the last five years. The spin machine of BJP is fantastic and anybody with the basic facts, the basics of algebra, will know that this is the way the numbers go,” the minister said criticising the Union government.
Interestingly, Subramanian Swamy, the former cabinet minister and the present headache for BJP, had created a stir among the BJP leaders and members by replying to the video and calling it, “Absolutely Correct,” endorsing the views of PTR. PTR also highlighted that under the leadership of M K Stalin, the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, the state delivered faster growth, lower inflation, and half the fiscal revenue deficit of India.
Speaking about the G20 Summit, the minister came down heavily on the central government and criticized it. He said, “We are the president of the G20. Is it a sign of anything, no it goes by the rotation? Who got us into G20? What is the pride in saying this around?”.
