Bengaluru: A home-maker committed suicide over an alleged quarrel with her neighbours over filling water in the Yelahanka police station limits in the city. The deceased has been identified as Saraswathi, 35, who used to live with her husband Nagaraj and their two children at a housing complex in Srinivaspura in Bengaluru.
According to sources, there was a constant quarrel between Saraswathi and their neighbours staying in the ground floor of the housing complex over water storage. The dispute was recently brought before the jurisdictional police who counselled both the families to avoid altercations.
Despite this, the family living on the ground floor had bought themselves a separate water tank and had been storing water from the common sump which was used by all the residents of the complex. On April 21, Saraswathi came to know about it and she told the family to stop storing water as it would lead to water shortage by other residents.
However it was alleged that three members from the family identified as Srinivas, Bhavani and Shilpa, verbally abused and assaulted Sarawathi which reportedly became unbearable for her. In depression, Saraswathi called Nagaraj, who had gone to Dharwad, over the phone and told him that she is committing suicide. The shocked husband called his relatives to stop her from taking the drastic step.
However by the time they reached the house, she had already hanged herself to death. A senior police officer told News Trail that a case under IPC section 306 (abetment to suicide) has been registered against the three neighbours based on a complaint filed by Nagaraj.
