Reservation revision a whitewash: AAP

Bengaluru: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) state campaign committee president Mukhyamantri Chandru slammed the BJP State government's revision of reservation in light of the interim report provided by the Backward Class Commission.
He added that policy had been a “whitewash” under which Lingayat and Vokkaliga communities had been misled. The Basavaraj Bommai administration had claimed that the interim report had recommended the abolition of the 2B Other Backward Classes (OBC) sub-cate gory under which Muslims get four per cent reservation.
The State government had sought to distribute the quota equally among Lingayats and Vokkaligas, a decision that was stayed by the Supreme Cour t on Tuesday. Mukhyamantri Chandru said: “The Backward Classes Commission in its interim report had recommended that no changes should be made to Category 2A, 2B and Category 1.
Nowhere in the interim report did the Commission say that Category 2B should be removed and transferred to EWS (Economically Weaker Sections). It is clearly stated in the interim report to wait until the final report is issued to revise the reservation. But the state government has thrown all these into the air and taken an illegal, unconstitutional and inhumane decision just for the sake of elections,” he said.
“Secretary of Backward Classes Department, Tulsi Muddinena, should respond regarding the signing of the order against the interim report. People should know under whose pressure he took such a decision. Although there is an order by the Supreme Court to wait till the final report, why has the state government taken such a decision before that? The Cabinet has cheated and the Governor should dismiss the Cabinet soon," Chandru added.
