Miscreants attack tree in Jayanagar with acid
NT Correspondent
Bengaluru: In a repeated incident, miscreants have attacked a tree in Jayanagar by pouring acid on it earlier this week, leaving it to die slowly. Activist and tree doctor Vijay Nishant rushed to the spot and examined the affected tree and identified it as a Pongamia (Beech) tree. Speaking to News Trail, Nishant said it was an attempt to kill the tree slowly, adding that he took all necessary steps to bring the tree back to life.
“I don’t understand why people do such things and continue to destroy the environment. The BBMP and the forest department have taken up the issue and an investigation is on. I have applied fertilisers and whatever it takes to bring the tree back to life. It will take two months for it to be restored,” he said.
It is not new for the city to witness such incidents as they have been occurring over the last few years. Miscreants continue to drill holes in trees and pour acid on them, so they burn from within. Activist Bachapur Raghavendra alleged that some business establishments and residents do this with their business or the like in mind.
