Modi roadshow leaves motorists fuming

Bengaluru: The Mega road show held by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the city as part of his election campaign on Saturday, left motorists stranded and irate for several hours on major roads here.

While the Prime Minister was being showered with flower petals by his supporters during the campaign, voters in the city expressed disappointment over being stuck in traffic congestion on NICE Road and the Bengaluru-Mysuru Expressway among other major junctions for around two hours. Earlier PM Modi had officially announced that there will be no VIP culture in the country.

And despite the orders of Bengaluru City Police Commissioner CH Pratap Reddy that emergency vehicles should be given priority even during VVIP movement, it was reported that several ambulances were also stuck in the traffic snarl on Mysuru Road on Saturday.

Several motorists alleged that there were no traffic cops to help clear the congestion. Citizens took to twitter and shared their ire. Several pictures of stranded vehicles along with messages to the Prime Minister drew criticism on Sunday.

"Thanks to @narendramodi for making all of us wait since 1 hour at outer ring road katriguppe, Banglore. Not a single traffic police is here to handle the situation. Do you think you can impress us with this?" a post read. Another post from a commuter read, "Dear our Hon'ble PM Shri Narendra Modi sir, It is our humble request you to not to conduct any more political rally at Namma Bengaluru. It took almost 2 hours to reach 3 KMs. Its Nightmare for all motorists."

According to sources, a two kilometre long traffic jam was witnessed on the Bengaluru-Mysuru expressway and a similar congestion on the NICE Road towards Summanahalli was witnessed on Saturday. "Thank you Modi Zeee for this beautiful traffic jam. Please avoid Basaveshwanagar KHB, Ambedkar College, Summanahalli. This is from Bengaluru University," a student posted.
