Bengaluru has been put on yellow alert with heavy rains expected over the next few days, particularly the coming 24 hours. The Indian Meteorology Department has said that the state will receive heavy to very heavy rainfall. “This is the result of cyclonic depressions over the Bay of Bengal and a low-pressure area is likely to form over its south-eastern region during the next 24 hours,” explained Geeta Agnihotri from the IMD, Bengaluru. “It is likely to move towards the west and north-west, concentrate into a depression and reach the northern coast of Tamli Nadu by early morning. The city will experience very heavy rainfall on November 11.”

According to IMD, Bengaluru City, Bengaluru Rural, Chamarajanagar, Chikkaballapur, Chikkamagaluru, Chitradurga, Hassan, Kodagu, Mandya, Mysuru, Ramnagar districts and Shivamogga will receive heavy rains within the next 48 hours.

Following the freak weather and the rain there will be a drop in temperatures, bringing an early winter chill. The weeks between mid-December and mid-January are the coldest of the year but winter has arrived earlier this year.
