Why didn’t you ban Bajrang Dal: HDK asks Cong

Bengaluru: J D(S) legislature party leader HD Kumaraswamy has reacted to Congress manifesto seeking to ban certain groups that spread hatred if it comes to power by asking why it didn’t do the same while in power in the state. Congress had mooted a ban on “organisations like Bajrang Dal, PFI (Popular Front of India) or others promoting enmity or hatred” in their manifesto, triggering outrage among Hindutva circles.

The former chief minister pointed out that Siddaramaiah had been the chief minister for a full five-year term but did not ban Bajrang Dal. “Such things aren’t important. When the Congress government ruled for five years, why didn’t they go ahead and ban it then? Why rake up the issue now? We have to alter the culture of those groups. We need to teach them how to act in public life. That is what is important,” Kumaraswamy said.
