Hand of God: Maradona’s stolen watch found
Guwahati , Dec. 11: Assam Police have solved what seemed like an unsolveable mystery! Football legend Diego Maradona’s watch, had mysteriously disappeared from a vault in Dubai where the ‘hand of God’ legendary Argentinian football star’s personal belongings had been stored.
On Saturday, police tracked down the thief all the way to Assam’s Sivasagar district and recovered the Hublot watch, worth a cool US$ 26,000 from the former security guard, who was working for the company in the UAE city of Dubai.
The accused is suspected to be involved in the theft of the entire safe in which the limited edition Hublot watch was kept, Director General of Police Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta said.
After working for a few days at the company, the accused returned to Assam in August, taking leave stating that his father was unwell. . The Assam Police swung into action after Dubai Police reached out to India with information on the accused, the officer said. Subsequently, the accused was arrested from his residence at 4 am and the watch was recovered, he said.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said it was an operation involving international coordination between the police forces of the two countries. Further legal action was being taken against the accused, he added. —(PTI)
