Will BBMP never wake up? Now, body of man found in drain

Bengaluru: A day after the heart wrenching incident where a 22- year old woman died after getting trapped in a cab which got submerged in a waterlogged underpass near KR Circle, the city police recovered the body of a 31-year old man from a rajakaluve (major drain) in Byatarayanapura police station limits here.

The police identified the deceased as Lokesh, a resident of KP Agrahara in Bengaluru. Sources close to his family said that Lokesh was employed a s a housekeeping stafferina private fir m in the city.

Speaking to News Trail, Byatarayanapura police said that Lokesh had drowned in an overflowing storm water drain near his house around 5 pm on Sunday. The incident took place when he reportedly came out of his house while it was raining heavily. As the rajakaluve water was overflowing above the road level, his family and neighbours warned him not to step into the water.

However he ignored them saying that he just wanted to gauge the depth of the water. Lokesh slipped into the drain and drowned as his family and neighbours watched in horror. The family alerted the police regarding the incident after which a search operation was initiated. Despite their best efforts, the officials could not trace Lokesh on Sunday.

On Monday, a team of officials from the fire and emergency services department along with the police, found Lokesh's body in the Rajakaluve of Byatarayanapura near Mysuru Road. The body was shifted to Victoria Hospital for the post-mortem. The police have taken up a case of unnatural death.
