Bengaluru: In the wake of two tragic deaths resulting from flooding, the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike has taken the decision to request a comprehensive report from the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) regarding all 18 underpasses situated in Bengaluru.
The first casualty occurred on May 21 when 22-year-old Bhanurekha, a software engineer, tragically drowned inside her car, which had become stranded at the KR Circle underpass. On the same day, Lokesh, aged 27, was swept away by the force of water gushing through a storm-water drain in KP Agrahara. His body was discovered 12 kilometres away in the Byatarayanapura SWD.
The BBMP has sought the assistance of the esteemed IISc to conduct a detailed study encompassing various aspects such as the underpasses' functional capacity and drainage systems. The findings from this investigation will be compiled into a report and subsequently forwarded to the government. The exact deadline for the submission of this report is unclear at present
