Congress worker killed, political violence suspected

Bengaluru: In what seems to be a case of political violence, a Congress party workers was hacked to death in Bengaluru’s Laggere with his head bludgeoned with a rock Wednesday night. Cops have so far refused to acknowledge it as a case of political violence but the fact that Congress posters were torn, provides hints on what could be the motive.
The deceased has been identified as 42-year-old Ravi also known as ‘Matthi Ravi’ who was a resident of Chowdeshwarinagar . Nandini Layout Police Station has registered a case against unidentified persons. The incident occurred around 10:45 pm on Wednesday night. Ravi was returning from the birthday bash of his friend Krishnamurthy, another Congress party worker.
The assailants, allegedly five to six in number on bikes, chased and hacked Ravi to death with machetes near a local bar. The victim, a driver by profession, is said to have breathed his last near ‘Halli Ruchi’ hotel at around 11 pm. Similarly, Congress and BJP-Bajrang Dal activists got into a fight with nonlethal weapons near Mani village junction in Bantval taluk of Dakshina Kannada district on Wednesday.
Three persons were injured in the clash. The injured persons are recovering at Puttur Government Hospital. On May 12, a Congress worker, Tajamul was stabbed by unidentified persons in Srinivaspura town in Kolar district suspectedly by JD(S) workers after an argument they had on election day (May 10) near a polling station.
