7 arrested for duping people with promise of government jobs

Bengaluru: Seven people have been arrested by the city police for allegedly duping people on the pretext of helping them secure jobs in the state government.
The police identified four accused as Prajwal, Praveen, Purushottam and Lohit, locals; while Shivaprasad Chennanavar and Vijay Kumar hail from Belagavi, and Pradeep from Tumakuru district. In a complaint filed at the High Grounds Police Station here, it was alleged that the accused person had conducted a fake recruitment for Bangalore Electricity Supply Company Limited (Bescom) and other departments of the State.
They had even provided several victims with fake order copies. The truth was revealed when the victims verified the job order copies. Realising that they have been duped, the victims approached the police and filed a complaint based on which a probe was initiated and the accused arrested.
Sources from the police said that the gang had allegedly extorted more than Rs 20 lakh from the victims. Following a raid, the police seized fake seals, letterheads, laptops, printer and other equipment including furniture, a car and Rs 5 lakh in cash from their workplace.
