Bengaluru: The Yemalur-Bellandur Lake Road, which was temporarily closed for repairs, has been reopened for Light Motor Vehicles (LMVs) such as motorcycles, autorickshaws, and cars.

The announcement was made by a Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) official on Saturday. Basavaraj Kabade, BBMP's Chief Engineer for solid waste management, explained that the closure was necessary due to the remodelling of the bridge. The previous bridge was only 12 meters wide, prompting the need for remodeling.

Kabade stated, "The vent width was just around 15-16 meters. We are now increasing the vent size to 24 meters and widening the road to 30 meters, allowing smooth water flow. The height will also be raised approximately two feet above the road level, ensuring easy passage of water offset from the Bellandur Lake." The road closure on Friday caused inconvenience to daily commuters in Bengaluru who rely on this route. Many residents took to social media, sharing videos and photographs of alter nate roads in worse conditions that they had to navigate.

However, with the road's reopening, normal traffic can resume, providing relief to the affected commuters. Hemanth Kamath tweeted: “With Bellandur Lake Road blocked for repair, this is our daily route to the office.. Yes, you can take Marathahalli road or come from Koramangala but the traffic is insane!” Another netizen said that in Bengaluru roads to “High Tech are paved with mud”.

“Most commuters here are headed to the various Tech offices & campuses which populate the Outer Ring Road. Welcome to Bangalore. Here the road to High Tech is paved with mud,” Abhisek Chatterjee shared a video of a slushfilled road and tagged Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar.

“Respected @siddaramaiah and @DKShivakumar sir, this is the condition of almost 1 KM stretch of Kariyammana Agrahara Road (Near Bellandur lake) in Bengaluru. I don’t know the context or why it is so bad, but this is very inconvenient and dangerous for passengers.
