Bengaluru: City police have launched a hunt for a man from Delhi who allegedly murdered his girlfriend here and tried to make it appear like a suicide case. The incident came to light on Monday night when another roommate returned to the flat after his work.

The deceased was identified by the police as Akanksha Vidyasagar, 23, a native of Hyderabad and the accused has been identified as Arpit, who hailed from New Delhi. It was learnt that Akanksha was a B Com graduate and was an employee of a marketing firm in Bengaluru.

According to the police, previously Akanksha and Arpit were working for the same company during which they fell in love and decided to live together. Sources further said that recently Arpit had joined a firm in Hyderabad while Akanksha continued to stay with her colleague at a flat in Sai Apartment of Kodihalli, Jeevanbheema Nagar in Bengaluru. During this time, Akanksha and Arpit developed differences and were often heard shouting at each other on phone. Eventually, the two decided to part ways.

Returning from Hyderabad on Monday, Arpit accompanied Akanksha to her room around 3 pm following which an argument took place between the two. An enraged Arpit allegedly strangled Akanksha to death. Sources from the police said the accused was shocked after the woman died at his hands and in order to save himself from being caught, he tied a cloth around the woman's neck.

"The accused attempted to hang her to a ceiling fan to make it look like she had committed suicide. However when he failed to do that, he left her body lying on the floor and fled from the spot," sources from the jurisdictional police said. Speaking to News Trail on Tuesday, Additional Commissioner, East Division, M Chandrashekar said that the cops are suspecting more involvement in the case. Four teams have been formed to nab the accused, the Additional Commissioner added.

The body was sent to Sir CV Raman hospital and the parents of the deceased were informed by the police. Based on a complaint filed by Akanksha's father, a murder case has been taken up by the Jeevanbheema Nagar police. Further investigation is underway
