Bengaluru: The Karnataka Lokayukta police that had taken up a suo motu case and probing the tragic death of a 23-year-old techie in a flooded underpass near KR Circle in the city, are likely to submit a report to Lokayukta Justice BS Patil soon. On Wednesday, Lokayukta Inspector General of Police (IGP) Subramanyeswara Rao, along with other officials inspected the drainage system of the underpass as part of an inquiry.
The Lokayukta has observed that there has been “prima facie negligence on the part of city officials”. While inspecting the underpass, the IGP asked for water tankers to release water, so that its flow in the drainage may be observed. He further indicated blockages in the drainage system as the cause of the flooding in the underpass when a large amount of rainfall is received in the region.
Bhanurekha, 23, died after the cab she was travelling in with five other members of her family entered the flooded underpass and submerged as the water level in the underpass kept rising due to heavy rain on May 21 in Bengaluru. Her family members and the cab driver were rescued in time.
