9 killed, 10 injured in Manipur: Will Modi break his silence now?

Imphal: The tiny northeastern state of Manipur continues to be on the boil with at least nine people killed and 10 injured when suspected miscreants attacked a village in the Khamenlok area of the ethnic strifehit state. PM Modi hasn't spoken on Manipur's 'burning' issue so far. Not even once! Congress probably made the smallest demand any PM would have ever faced Narendra Modi should appeal for peace and harmony in Manipur.

The armed miscreants surrounded the Kuki village of Khamenlok area bordering Imphal East district and Kangpoki district and launched the attack at around 1 am, officials said. In the gun battle that ensued, both sides suffered casualties and injuries. Three persons were also reported missing. The state has been witnessing large-scale violence between the majority Meitei and Kuki communities over a quota issue for several weeks now.

More than 100 people lost their lives and 310 others were injured in the ethnic violence between the Meiteis and Kukis. Army and paramilitary personnel have been deployed to restore peace. Clashes first broke out on May 3 after a 'Tribal Solidarity March' was organised in the hill districts to protest against the Meitei community's demand for ST status.
