B'luru police's SOS boxes to redress grievances in no time
NT Correspondent
Bengaluru: The Bengaluru police have set up as many as 30 emergency SOS police booths in the city to address the public’s grievances. The booth has a button for the complainant to press to register a complaint. According to police sources, the complaints can be about anything including accidents, chain snatchings, thefts, harassment, etc.
The booths are designed in such a way that voice prompts can be heard after a user presses the emergency button, allowing the users to communicate with the officials on the other end and register their problems. The nearby Hoysala police appear at the spot as soon as possible once the users register their complaints. Users can register their complaints in both the regional language and in English without any timing limitations.
Since the initiative began three days back, there have not been any complaints registered. The police department is likely to set up 20 more booths across the city. However, the police department has also placed CCTV cameras near every booth to monitor who is using them and whether the complaints are genuine.
