Myusuru: Zilla Panchayat chief executive officer KM Gayathri on Saturday paid a surprise visit to Dr BR Ambedkar Residential School for Nomads’ Children at Gandhinagar here.
The ZP not only interacted with residents of the school but also collected feedback from them regarding the facilities and requirements provided after spending more than one-and-half hours with them.
She collected details of the family background of the inmates of the hostel as well as distributed sweets to the children.
As the school is running in a rented building, she directed the joint director of district social welfare department Rangegowda to send a proposal to the state government for construction of a new school building for the children, as the government has identified the land near Mandakalli to set up the school.
As scheduled caste nomads migrate from one place to another in search of jobs to eke out a living, they leave their children to study in this school, she said.
As the children are struggling for space in the residential school, she asked officials to shift the students to alter native schools, besides recommending the government for early release of grants for the construction of the new school for them near Mandakalli.
The ZP CEO also instructed the officials to submit a list of requirements, facilities for the hostel.
“The DDPI must initiate measures to deploy music and arts teachers for this school once or twice in a week to help children of this school,” she added.
