Bengaluru: Following an order from the city court on Friday, the Lokayukta officials took Tahsildar Ajit Rai into seven-day custody for further investigation and to ascertain the source of the amount seized from him during raids recently. According to sources, the Lokayukta will take Rai to his native Puttur for further probe.

On June 28, the Lokayukta raided Ajit Rai’s residence in Sahakar Nagar in Bengaluru and 10 other locations and seized 40 lakh cash, jewellery worth more than Rs 3.5 crore and several property documents. The raid went on for more than 24 hours following which Rai was arrested and produced before a court in Bengaluru. After hearing both parties, the court granted his custody to Lokayukta for seven days.

According to reports, Ajit was planning to start a horse riding training centre on the outskirts of Bengaluru. He was recently transferred and moved out as KR Puram Tahsildar and was reportedly waiting for a posting. It is worth noting that when he was produced before the court, Ajit seemed unaffected by the developments and was smiling during the hearing, sources said.
