Bengaluru: Terming the strong opposition of seers from various mutts against the Congress government’s move to repeal amendments to the AntiCow Slaughter Act in Karnataka, Congress MLA NA Haris said it was a political threat from a party that came through these seers and the Congress party in the State doesn’t fear that. He added the state government would go ahead with repealing the amendments to the controversial Anti-Cow Slaughter Act.

On Saturday, sadhus and pontiffs of various mutts of the coast opposed the Congress government’s move to repeal amendments to the Anti-Cow Slaughter and Anti-Conversion laws. They warned to hold statewide protests if the government did not pay heed to their suggestions and goes ahead with its decision. Speaking to News Trail, Congress MLA NA Haris, told the party will stand by the decision it made and will not take a U-turn.

“We will repeal the amendments to the AntiCow Slaughter Act at any cost and we are not favouring any individual by doing so. We are concerned about the suffering of the farmers, which they (seers and other political parties) do not care about”, he said. However, the seers said, “Repealing the laws against cow slaughter and religious conversion will lead to social unrest”.

Replying to the claims of the seers, Haris said the controversial law at present is causing social unrest and the Congress party is here to protect people from it as the BJPin the State did not care about it. “People of Karnataka elected us and we will implement all promises we made in the run-up before assuming power”, Haris reiterated.
