Bengaluru: Amid a huge vacuum in the opposition BJP which has till now failed to select a leader of opposition in the Karnataka Legislative Assembly, the party top brass has appointed Union minister Mansukh Mandaviya and party general secretary Vinod Tawde as central observers for the election of the LoP.

The two central leaders will be visiting the state in a couple of days to oversee the election of the party's leader in the state assembly. Former CM Basavaraj Bommai is one of the contenders while Vijayapura City MLA Basangouda Patil Yatnal is another.

Meanwhile, party MLAs attended the first day of the session on Monday without an opposition leader.

Efforts to find a replacement for BJP state president Nalin Kumar Kateel who has come under heavy criticism after the part’s Assembly poll loss, have also proved futile. Hitting out at the BJP, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah dubbed it the "most indisciplined party."

It clearly shows that there is groupism among them, he told reporters referring to the delay in the selection of an opposition leader.
