Bengaluru: There is a piece of good news for citizens of Mysuru and Bengaluru. The inflow into the parched Krishna Raja Sagar(KRS) Reservoir in Srirangapatna taluk of Mandya district crossed 1,000 cusecs on Wednesday thanks to copious rains in the catchment areas in the Kodagu region.
Similarly, the inflow into Kabini Reservoir in H.D. Kote Taluk of Mysore district stood at 3431 cusecs with the water level increasing by three feet following rains in the Wayanad region of Kerala in the last few days.
Though the monsoon arrived after a delay of almost a month, the solace is that there are heavy rains in Kodagu district and the inflow into KRS Dam has improved.
On this day last year, the KRS Dam level was 110.64 feet as against the maximum level of 124.80 feet with an inflow of 32,371 cusecs. The old temples on the tank bed area of the Krishna Raja Sagar had surfaced after the water level dipped to less than 80 feet.
The water storage on Wednesday was 10.090 tmc as against the full storage capacity of 49.45 tmc ft of water.
Meanwhile, the water level at Kabini Dam stood at 2253.90 feet (maximum 2284 ft) with an inflow of 3431 cusecs and no outflow. Last year on this day, the water level was 2271.72 feet and the inflow was 13,254 cusecs.
As against the maximum capacity of 19.52 tmc ft, today’s capacity was 5.22 tmc and on the same day last year, the dam had 12.53 tmc ft of water.
The rains in the district have brought cheer to farmers. They are praying for more rains in the coming days so that agricultural activities can pick up.
