Bengaluru: In good news for commuters, the Karnataka government has ordered the traffic department to reintroduce the 50 per cent rebate offer on all traffic violation fines for another two months.
However the order also said that the offer is applicable to the cases registered on or before February 11.
Speaking to News Trail, an official from Bengaluru Traffic Police (BTP) said that the decision was taken after a discussion held between the Karnataka State Legal Services Authority and higher officials on June 6 regarding the re-implementation of the discount scheme.
As per the official, around 450 crore is still due from traffic violators across the state. The order issued by Pushpa VS, under secretary in the transport department, said that the rebate on traffic violation cases will be applicable across the state, up till September 9 this year.
The traffic violations include drunken driving, signal jumping, overspeeding and riding without helmet in two wheelers or driving without seatbelt in four wheelers. This is the third time the state government has offered discounts on offences.
The police had collected Rs 120 crore in fines from 4.5 lakh pending traffic cases during the two earlier discount offers implemented in February and March.
