Bengaluru: The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has now come forward to remodel and redevelop the iconic VV Puram Thindi Beedi, the food street in the city.
The BBMP Zonal Commissioner Jayaram Raipura on Tuesday said that the revamp of the food street will be complete by August 15. Raipura visited the popular food street located near the Sajjan Rao Circle in VV Puram to inspect the progress of the work.
Following the inspection, Raipura said that the work was delayed due to Karnataka Assembly Elections. The redesign project, estimated to cost between Rs 5-6 crore, was launched last year in December.
Over 20 food stalls spread over less than 150 metres here serve a variety of south Indian, north Indian and Chinese delicacies to customers.
Currently, the food street lacks modern amenities and the narrow but crowded street is not capable of handling the huge number of crowds and vehicles it attracts.
Meanwhile, shopkeepers are relieved and happy that the famous food street will be redeveloped, which they hope will bring more business and make the street customer-friendly.
