Bengaluru: The horror-thriller Ambuja is the landmark 50th film for actress Shubha Poonja. Poonja had shot to fame in Moggina Manasu along with Radhika Pandit and Yash more than a decade ago.
She plays an investigator in the new movie which director Srini Hanumantaraju says “has a story never told before.”
To Shubha Poonja’s credit she plays the leading lady even in her 50th film as a testimony to film makers’ belief in her talent and popularity. Ambuja also marks the debut of television star Rajani in films.
She plays a Banjara (Lambani) woman in the film and her costume, weighing 25 kilograms, has been the talk of the tinsel town ever since the first look of the film was released some time ago.
The trailer of the film was released earlier this week before the film’s theatrical release on the 21st of July. “The story of the film itself is scary.
It revolves around an unusual crime that will surprise everyone. There is horror, suspense and thrills aplenty in the film. But I have not cut down on comedy, romance and emotions.
Ambuja is an entertaining film in all aspects,” director Hanumantaraju said. Apart from Shubha Poonja and Rajini, the film also stars Deepak Subramanya, Padmaja Rao, Govinde Gowda, Baby Akanksha, Jagadish Halkude and Nisha Hegde.
The story, screenplay and lyrics of the film are by Kashinath D Madivalar who is also the producer of the film. He plays an important character in the film as well. The director says the film has many firsts. “I have tried to incorporate many new techniques in the film.
As I mentioned, the subject and the crime it talks about is very unique and will shock the audiences. This is the first film to be shot on the Yettina Bhuja peak.
The vocals used in the songs are being tried for the first time. I do not want to reveal everything now. Inside the theatres, it will be an unforgettable experience,” he said.
