Citizens smell scam in installation of gym equipment in Shankar Mutt park
Bengaluru, NT Bureau: A park located in Shankar Mutt ward under the Mahalakshmi Layout constituency has become embroiled in controversy following recent renovations carried out by the BBMP.
The park, which was previously in a dilapidated state, has now come under scrutiny due to the installation of gym equipment in an attempt to attract visitors.
However, eyebrows have been raised over the exorbitant cost of approximately Rs 60 lakh incurred for the project.
Suspicions of corruption by BBMP engineers have led a social activist planning a complaint against them, which will be addressed to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.
The activist, Arun Paramesh, alleges irregularities in the purchase of exercise equipment. Paramesh claims that the park underwent beautification, involving the rearrangement of old cobblestones, repainting of walls, besides installation of the gym equipment.
The estimated cost of the entire project is said to be Rs 60 lakh. Paramesh further asserts that BBMP officials are awaiting clearance of the bill, as funds from other projects were reportedly utilised for the park's renovation.
"Specific details regarding the tender process, have not been disclosed by BBMP engineers," he said.
