Uprooted tree crushes cars

Bengaluru: A fallen tree at Chandrika Hotel junction has damaged five cars and necessitated a vehicle diversion on Friday, traffic police disclosed. The tree appears to have collapsed in the backdrop of heavy rains and accompanying strong winds that hit the city a day prior.
“A big tree has fallen at Chandrika Hotel junction. Traffic has been diverted at Balekundri junction and Kalpana circle. Kindly cooperate,” Joint Commissioner of Bengaluru Traffic Police MN Anucheth tweeted.
Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has in the past named weak roots as the reason for trees falling under duress from gales during heavy rains.
The civic body’s stated goal is to fell trees with weak roots before monsoon gets underway but tree fall in the city continues to remain a menace to the safety of life and property.
