Woman strangles 6-year-old daughter to death in Tumakuru

Bengaluru: In a shocking incident, a woman strangulated her six-year-old daughter to death in Shantinagar in Karnataka's Tumakuru district on Friday.

The accused, identified as Hemalatha, strangulated her daughter Tanvitha to death. After hearing the screams of the girl, neighbours rushed to the house and snatched the child from Hemalatha.

However, Tanvitha had reportedly died due to strangulation by then. Police were informed and they arrested Hemalatha.

Hemalatha's family members are claiming that she is suffering from a mental illness, but police are questioning them if that was the case, why she was left alone with the child.

A case has been registered at Jayanagar Police Station in Tumakuru. The police are investigating the matter and further details are awaited.
